Enroll in Course
Are you like most people who have a nice digital camera but have no idea what all those settings are for? Do your pictures turn out great sometimes but other times . . . not so much? This course will walk you step-by-step through ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed, leading you to take full manual control of your camera so you can get the images YOU intend, every time, not just when Auto happens to get it right.
Here's what we'll cover:
- Equipment
- The exposure triangle: ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed
- White Balance
- Creative Approaches to Using the Technical Components
You can work at whatever pace feels comfortable for you and I'm here to help.
Let's get started!
Your Instructor
I'm a formally trained photographer and certified teacher, having received an MFA in Photography from the Academy of Art in 2017 and a BA in Education from Alaska Pacific University in 2001.
Photographer Dorothea Lange said, "The camera is an instrument that teaches people to see without a camera." This has been my experience as well. While I have been interested in photography all my life, I got serious learning about it almost twenty years ago, and it has most definitely shaped the way I see. It's helped me realize that there is an awful lot that I miss with my natural eye. In that sense, image making has always been a bit of a treasure hunt to me. Whether portraiture, landscape, macro, documentary, still life . . . something is always revealed that I wouldn't have otherwise seen - hidden treasure. I look forward to seeing the world through your eyes; seeing the treasures you find along the way.
